Kicking Into Preseason For Girls Varsity Soccer
With the fall season in, soccer preseason is starting up and practices are in full swing. This year, we are introduced to a new soccer coach, Ron Wolfe, who is doing what he can to ensure the team is successful this year.
“I was very excited to hear that Coach Ron was coming because he actually coached me in club when I was little, so I know him. This year, he has been doing different and specific drills and he makes sure that we get playing time to see how we work together,” Sarah Henry, junior varsity player, said.
This year’s team all came together to practice and have team bonding to help with how they cooperate on the field.
“I feel like there is more team bonding and we are all much closer this year, so that will help a lot for when we are playing on the field because it is less stressful for everyone when we all feel comfortable playing with each other.” Mariam Shahout, junior varsity player, said.
Practices are every weekday after school, starting at 4:00 PM and ending at 5:30 PM, sometimes 6 PM. Games and practices after school can sometimes get in the way of finishing schoolwork. This means student athletes must use time management in order to finish their homework so they get a good night’s rest for the next day.
“Most of our games are at 7 o’clock and they usually last two hours, sometimes three if you include warming up, so usually those are just late nights, but otherwise it’s not that bad,” Henry said.
The next game will be after Thanksgiving break at Cambridge Christian High School on December 3 from 4 to 5 pm. Come and show your Tampa Prep spirit. Go red, go gold.
