Earlier this month Elon Musk announced that SpaceX, a space research company privately owned by Elon Musk, is working on facilitating the first civilian operated space flight called Inspiration4. The flight, while not being the first time a civilian has flown to space, (that honor goes to Dennis Tito on the Russian’s Soyuz), is the first time a space flight has had a crew made up entirely of civilians. While details about the trip’s exact trajectory are limited, we do know that the voyage is scheduled to occur in the 4th quarter of this year and will take multiple days to complete, the capsule would revolve around the earth approximately once every 90 minutes.

When it comes to passengers, Elon Musk decided to hold a variety of contests to choose who’ll be welcome aboard the historic mission. The first seat has already been given to Jared Issacman, a billionaire and a jet pilot who set a world record for the fastest flight around the world in a light jet. The second seat, which has been dubbed “generosity,” goes to the winner of a St. Jude charity raffle, which anyone can enter as long as they donate ten dollars or more to the charity.

The third seat, dubbed the “prosperity,” is available to any small business owner who uses the website “shift4shop.com” as their storefront. The small business owner would post a video with the inspirational story of their store on twitter. The most viral videos will be put upon a panel of celebrity judges, whoever’s story inspires them the most, will be given a spot on the spacecraft.

The fourth and final space on the plane, dubbed only as “hope” will be given to a representative of St. Jude. This representative is someone who,

according to the mission’s main webpage, “exemplifies the pillar of Hope as well as the courageous vision upon which St. Jude was founded — compassion, unity, equality and inclusion.”
