On February 12th, the Class of 2024 enjoyed on of the many perks that awaits students their senior year: senior skip day. Typically held the Monday after the Super Bowl, students are excused from the entire school day and do not have to report to their classes.
For the teachers whose classes are filled with mostly seniors, this can be a rewarding day as well. Science teacher Suzanne Beekman had a class with only one junior in attendance with the seniors being out. With her newfound time, Beekman allowed the junior to work on his STEM project and she was able to catch up on some work as well.
While there is a wide variety of options on how seniors choose to spend their day off, most went with the simple choice of relaxing at home.
“I sat at home and watched ‘Suits’ all day,” Senior Will Loosbrock said.
Some seniors, however, chose to do physically demanding tasks, like Jaime McFarland, who spent the day taking care of his dog and playing pickle-ball.
Fellow senior Lea Barna took advantage of the nice weather.
“I went to the beach and got dinner. Afterwards, I met my friend’s puppy,” Barna said.
Barna says she wanted to spend her time at the beach with her mom because Barna is going off to college soon and wants to spend the time she has left in Tampa enjoying time with family.
This mid semester treat is something both seniors and teachers alike look forward to.
