Jarad Anthony Higgins, better known by his stage name Juice Wrld, was an American rapper who died at the age of 21. Higgins started his career back in 2016 and started to blow up around a year later. His hit singles “All Girls are the Same” and “Lucid Dreams” became huge hits in 2017 and are still being played to this day. These two songs are what started to get his name out to the general public and helped him to become such a big artist. Juice Wrld released three studio albums from 2017 to 2019, his most recent being A Death Race for Love which made it to number one on the Billboard 200.

Juice Wrld’s main genre of rap was “emo rap” where he mostly talked about his feelings and how he was depressed and turned to drugs. His music also helped people who were in similar situations since he was such an influential rapper. Not only did he rap about meaningful things, but almost his entire 2019 album was freestyled, which just shows his pure talent.

Juice Wrld grew up playing the guitar and piano and in high school began freestyle rapping with his friends. Juice Wrld turned to music when he was sad and used it as a way to express his emotions. Many of his songs are relatable to so many people and they were affected by his death.

His cause of death is still to be determined, but it seems to be a possible pill overdose of some sort.

On Dec. 8, 2019, Juice Wrld and his crew were flying a private plane to Chicago before he died. The plane had contraband on it and the pilot, without knowing Higgins had any drugs, radioed to the airport telling them there were guns onboard. Juice Wrld heard about what the pilot had said and allegedly swallowed a bunch of Percocet to hide them from the police.

When the plane had landed, the suitcases were searched and Juice Wrld proceeded to have a seizure. As paramedics arrived there was apparently blood coming from Higgins’s mouth and they had administered Narcan to undo the overdose.

When Higgins arrived at the hospital, he went back into seizing and was pronounced dead in the ER. The search led the police to finding 70 pounds of marijuana in the suitcases on the plane, which along with the Percocet would have been over 35 years in jail.

Juice Wrld was a huge artist with his career just starting to take off. He was very young with dying at the age of 21, he let drugs get the best of him. Juice Wrld even knew his drug addiction would eventually kill him when he says in his hit song “Legends” “what’s the 27 club we won’t make it past 21.” This is very ironic considering he died just 6 days after his 21st birthday.

Although he turned to drugs as a coping mechanism, this was never a good decision and Higgins is now another young artist who died because of drugs.

Many other rappers have shared their thoughts like Joyner Lucas saying that “all of these rappers nowadays promote drugs and make people think it’s ok.” Juice Wrld did not deserve to die so young and would have been one of the most successful rappers to ever live. Juice Wrld was very impactful and helped change many people’s lives and it’s very sad that he is gone.
