Tampa Prep’s Girls Basketball has seen one of its impressive seasons yet. The team finished off their season 22-5, a dominating 81% win rate. The team ended ranked 49 in Florida, and in the top 10 in the Tampa area. “The atmosphere was simply incredible”. “I’ve never felt so much school spirit until I attended the first home game of the season,”  said Talia Johnsingh, a freshman  at Prep who had frequently attended home games.

Coach Erin Knight, Tampa Prep’s girls basketball coach, recorded her 100th career win on January 20th against Bishop McLaughlin Catholic in a dominant fashion winning 77-4. This marks a significant event for Tampa Prep’s girls basketball as just a week later, Coach Knight was named SBLive Florida’s High School Girls Basketball Coach of Week award, winning 60.30% of votes. With multiple seniors on the team, the team’s success was a very emotional event for the athletes after playing their last home game.

Senior Night took place on January 24th and was against River Ridge. The Terrapins won 47-35, making that their eighth consecutive win of the season. The seniors heavily dominated the game, making 26 of the 47 points. “Being a part of this team for four years has really allowed me to call my teammates my family”. “We have all worked so hard over these years and it’s amazing seeing how much we can achieve when we all work together,” said Maiyah Hall, a senior on the Varsity team.

The seniors further cemented their legacy on the team by helping make history for the program.

After the second seeded Tampa Prep  defeated the top seed Brooks De Bartolo 25-22 in the district championship game, this ended the 15 year drought and added a fifth district championship trophy for the program. Brooks De Bartolo has consistently been considered a tough opponent as the Terrapins narrowly won all three encounters  55-42, 25-22, and 40-38 respectively. Making their way into the finals, the girls basketball team dismissed the number three seed  Tampa Catholic in the semi-finals 52-42 in a demanding fashion, despite losing to them a week earlier, 45-54.
