The spread for the national championship game was -5.5 for Alabama. Spoiler alert, they didn’t cover. It seemed like a shootout from the start with two scores in the first three minutes of the game. The excitement began when the Clemson Tigers scored after Tua Tagovailoa, the quarterback for Alabama, threw an interception on Bama’s very first drive. Drive after drive it seemed like a back and forth affair until the beginning of the second quarter.

With a 4th down conversion Bama was second and goal when they were taken back five yards for a false start penalty. Clemson’s defense kept them from the end zone and they had to settle for a field goal. After that, it seemed like the Tigers took over. Even when Bama managed to convert for the second time on fourth down, they were unable to take advantage of the play and gave up an interception for the second time that night.

All eyes were on Trevor Lawrence, true freshman quarterback and ACC Rookie of the Year, as he threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns in the championship against Alabama. Dubbed “Touchdown Jesus” by Clemson fans the nickname sounds fitting as he entered bowl season with 24 touchdowns and only four interceptions according to the Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site after taking over for Kelly Bryant, who transferred to University of Missouri in early December.

The Clemson Tigers are now the first team to go a perfect 15-0 since the late 1800’s.

The final score was 44-16.
