On Nov. 9, Tampa Prep will be hosting its 4th annual Dance for a Chance event to raise money for Shriners Hospital for Children. This year’s co-presidents, seniors Reagan Curtis and Max McGeachy, are looking forward to working with a diverse group of members to facilitate the event. Students of all ages, including middle school, are members of the committees and they still desire more freshmen and sophomore participation.

“[We] are seeking a larger audience outside Tampa Prep,” Curtis said.

The committee also plans to partner with other high school volunteer organizations such as student groups from Blake High School, Clearwater Central Catholic High School, and other schools in the Tampa Bay area.

By incorporating other members of the Tampa community, Dance for a Chance is hoping meet the goals they have set for this year’s event.

“[We are] hoping to expand both monetarily and attendance wise,” McGeachy said.

Although Dance for a Chance raised an impressive $26,400 last year, McGeachy and Curtis are confident that this year’s goal of $40,000 has a strong chance of being achieved under their leadership.

Mcgeachy and Curtis have high hopes for the future success of Dance for a Chance after they graduate in the spring. They have been showing the ropes to juniors Sammy Alvarez and Sarah MacCormack who will be leading the event next year. According to Curtis, MacCormack brought on three new ambassadors and worked to bring the event attention on a district level.

“Dance for a Chance is something to unify kids across Tampa in a positive way and in a way that helps other kids,” McGeachy said.
