Partnerships with education and the workplace have flourished in the Tampa Bay area this school year. Medical Explorers Club has partnered with Tampa General Hospital, a level one trauma center serving 23 countries.

This connection will help the club established just last year further their studies and experience in the workplace. Harnessing the close location of Tampa Prep and Tampa General in the downtown area will help the partnership with years to come.

Tampa General has offered to bring experienced speakers to our campus, one of whom has already spoken. The said speakers range from volunteers to experienced doctors speaking about varying topics. Angelique McCormick, Director of Volunteers at Tampa General, presented the new program to the members of the club. During her presentation, she explained the details of the program to the club, showing the Medical Explorers that the partnering with Tampa General is a great way to explore.

For a few driven seniors of the club, Tampa General has offered a fruitful pathway for senior internships in May. These internships will supply the members with not only experience in multiple clinical departments but also other areas such as work within the business and information offices.

Claudia Silver, a senior at Tampa Prep, is one of the seniors who is wanting to pursue a career in the world of medicine. She said, “Medicine is something that will always be in our society and I want to be apart of it.”

Maggie Babbitt, a member of Medical Explorers talked about her excitement for the future of the club. She said, “This is an incredible opportunity for our school to go beyond our normal range in clubs.” This partnership will allow students from Tampa Prep to involve themselves with something greater than the classroom but an involvement in the community.

When asked about her future plans for the club she said, “I hope this club can expand to a greater number of people that are interested in the world of medicine.”
