Netflix Releases Chilling Documentary Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez

On Jan. 15, Netflix premiered the three-part documentary Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez. The documentary focuses on ex-NFL star Aaron Hernandez and his life as he was convicted of the murder of his friend, Odin Lloyd and as he was a suspect for two other murders. The documentary also showed the factors that Hernandez faced which shaped his life.

Netflix didn’t do a great job of portraying his life. In fact, one major problem with the documentary was it left many viewers with more questions than what was answered. Rather than diving in and going in-depth with what caused Hernandez to do these things, the series just flies by each theory.

For instance, instead of giving one solid motive, Netflix provides those who watched the documentary with many possible theories.

Maybe Hernandez murdered Lloyd because of his lack of a father figure. Or maybe it was because shortly after the passing of his father, his mother had an affair with Hernandez’s cousin’s husband.  Or it could possibly be because of Hernandez’s sexual repression in high school.

The series did show how sloppy a criminal Hernandez was with him leaving evidence for the police to find. Hernandez also showed up in surveillance footage right before his crimes. The only time he really acted like a criminal was when he got rid of the murder weapon. Something he did with help from his wife.

After two years, it’s very difficult to see why a star football player in his prime and headed to the Super Bowl, could get charged with murder and throw his life away before taking it. Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez gives insight into how the life of Hernandez unfolded.
