New year, new coach. Former Arizona Cardinals head coach, Bruce Arians, has come out of retirement to coach the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Arians retired at the end of the 2017 season due to health problems, but now he is back on a four year deal.

“Bruce Arians is one of the NFL’s most well-respected coaches over the past two decades and we are excited to have him leading our team,” Bucs owner/co-chairman Bryan Glazer said. The veteran coach has a lot of accomplishments including two time coach of the year and has a career coaching record of 49-30-1. That record included two playoffs appearances, a feat that the Bucs haven’t conquered for the past 11 years, three double digit win seasons, and one division title.

It is believed by many that Arians was hired to help Quarterback Jameis Winston. Arians has developed many Pro Bowl quarterbacks around the league like Ben Roethlisberger, Peyton Manning, Carson Palmer, and Andrew Luck. Hopefully Arians helps Jameis limit the turnovers, help him work on the deep ball, and manage the game. Arians takes the strengths of quarterbacks he works with making him known as the  “Quarterback whisperer.”

Arians is the perfect fit. Arians has known General Manager Jason Licht (who previously worked in Arizona) and Quarterback Jameis Winston since High School. “‘Jaboo’ has been a legend since he was in the ninth grade,” Arians said before their first NFL meeting. “… I’ve been hearing about him, knowing about him for a long time. … Just a tremendous athlete. A very bright guy, but had a cannon for an arm. He was probably throwing 90 mile-an-hour fastballs back then in the ninth, 10th grade”(via deadspin.com). It was also believed that Arians only wanted to coach Tampa.

Arians is also bringing former New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles to be the defensive coordinator for the team. Bowles is a huge upgrade from former Bucs defensive coordinators Mike Smith and Mark Duffner. Bowles previously was apart of Arians staff in Arizona as a defensive coordinator in which he was Assistant Coach of the year.

Arians brings a lot of swagger to the Buccaneers spiritless locker room. Buccaneers fans should be excited as Arians is the coach the Buccaneers have not had in awhile. So get ready and hop on the Bucco Bruce Train!
