The Weeknd’s 4th Studio Album ‘After Hours’ Has Emerged

The Weeknd’s 4th Studio Album ‘After Hours’ Has Emerged

Singer Abel Tesfaye, known as The Weeknd, released his fourth studio album titled ‘After Hours’. This stream of consciousness album explores many emotions such as loneliness, sadness, and jealousy as The Weeknd uses this album to convey his feelings. The album is a mixture of sounds from the genres of pop and R&B. It delivers on The Weeknd’s usual melancholy tone with futuristic sounds.

The Weeknd delivered yet again another post-breakup album. Songs like the album-opening “Alone Again” or album titled  “After Hours” are songs of heartbreak. The Weeknd’s most recent relationship was with model Bella Hadid. The initially became a thing in 2015 and then were reunited as a couple after the high profile relationship with Selena Gomez in 2017. In August of 2019, the couple broke up due to their very busy and conflicting schedules. However, there have been rumors of possible reconciliation. As of now, the two are not together.

Of course, the album still falls within his two main themes of seductiveness and sadness. These ballads consist of slow trap beats and numb lyrics. Though, there are some upbeat songs including one of the lead singles “Blinding Lights” thrown into the mix.

The ballad “Too Late” is one of the many examples of moments where Abel expresses his guilt and remorse of a past relationship. The Weeknd seems bipolar as he goes from one emotion to the opposite, feeling guilty, finger-pointing then all together numb.

In ‘After Hours’ The Weeknd takes on many different roles as he changes from a heartbroken romantic to a “Heartless” man. The Weeknd sinks his teeth into new sounds with tracks like “Scared to Live” and “Hardest to Love” which both are lighthearted and upbeat.

Overall, the album has a good mixture of songs that will take listeners on a roller coaster of emotions through the mind of the artist. Many of these songs convey the feelings felt during Abel’s darkest hours. With self-loving and self-loathing songs, ‘After Hours’ is definitely a must-listen.
